Entertainment company Lionsgate have bought the film rights to the teen book series Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness. Lionsgate are the company behind the upcoming Hunger Games film adaptation and indeed many news outlets have today led with suggestions that Ness’ dystopian series might be the “next Hunger Games“.
The adaptation will be produced by Doug Davison (How to Train Your Dragon, The Grudge) and his label Quadrant Pictures.
The thrilling and terrifically written first book in the trilogy, The Knife of Never Letting Go is set in the New World and follows young teenage boy Todd Hewitt. It won the 2008 Guardian Award, Booktrust Teenage prize and James Tiptree, Jr. Award and was shortlisted for the 2009 Carnegie Medal. Its sequel, The Ask and the Answer won the 2009 Costa Children’s Fiction prize and was also shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. Proving that the third time’s a charm, the last book in the series, Monsters of Men, won the 2011 Carnegie Medal.
